Day 1-Arrive in Copenhagen
Upon your arrival in Copenhagen you will transfer to your lovely hotel and enjoy a welcome reception hosted by your tour guide. Meals included: Welcome Dinner
Day 2-Copenhagen City Tour
Copenhagen is compact and you'll feel at home right away. We'll show you the highlights-from Tivoli Gardens, Europe's first great amusement park-to the Str›get shopping street that stretches through the heart of the old merchants' (k›ben ) harbor (havn). from Nyhavn you'll find the Amalienborg Palace and Square. Across a canal from the National Museum sits the Christianborg Palace, resting atop the ruins of Copenhagen's original 12th-century castle. Finally, see the little Mermaid inspired by Hans Christian Andersen. (B)
Day 3-Copenhagen Aboard Seaways Cruise Ship
Enjoy a morning of leisure in Copenhagen or join us on an optional tour. In the late afternoon, we'll board an overnight ferry to Norway. Check into your stateroom and then get ready for dinner fit for a Viking. You'll be traveling first class all the way with fine wine, dancing, duty free shopping and non-stop views in the land of the midnight sun. (B, D)
Optional Tour: Island Castle and Danish Riviera Journey to North Sealand, a region of villages, palaces, lakes, and forests. Visit 17th-century Frederiksborg Castle built in Danish Renaissance style on three islands in a small lake. Savor local fare at a rustic country inn. Drive along the Danish Riviera back to Copenhagen.
Day 4-Sculptures and Fjords
We'll greet the sun as we glide up the Oslofjord into Norway 's capital. Once ashore, we'll begin with a visit to Holmenkollen's Olympic ski jump to admire the dizzying panoramic view of the Oslofjord. Next, drive to Frogner Park, home of Gustav Vigeland's amazingly lifelike sculptures. After your tour, continue to the famed Norwegian Fjords for three nights. Your Hotel Rica is a perfect place to enjoy the long days as the sun sets after 9pm. The hotel is located on the water with stunning views of the fjords and surrounding mountains. (B, D)
Day 5-The Norwegian Fjords and Flam Railway
Carved out through succession of the Ice Ages, the Norwegian Fjords are considered one of the world's greatest destinations and today we'll see this area by train and cruise. Following a hearty Norwegian buffet breakfast, we'll take an excursion on the Flam Railway. This train trip is regarded as one of the highlights of Norway. On the journey, you will cut through deep ravines and waterfalls, snow-capped mountains and farms that cling dizzily to sheer slopes. After, time in idyllic Flam, our journey continues by boat out to Aurlandsfjord and into the Naeroyfjord, the narrowest fjord in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Sight. (B, D)
Day 6-Bergen, "A World Heritage City"
Enjoy a day at leisure or you may choose to take an optional tour to Bergen.
Optional Tour: Load your cameras: today is scenery day! We'll take a scenic fjord cruise and then turn south at the troll on our way to Bergen. Tour the city's old wharf district, called Bryggen, featuring traditional wooden buildings and a medieval atmosphere. It was founded in 1070, and is one of the oldest large trading ports in Northern Europe. Visit Troldhaugen, former home of Edvard Grieg, Norway's foremost composer who is best known for his musical score for the play Peer Gynt. (B, D)
Day 7-Oslo, Norway
Enjoy the afternoon at leisure in Oslo. This vibrant city will inspire you to explore with a gutsy Viking spirit. Leif Ericson's long boats, Heyerdal's Kon Tiki and Nazi resistance heroes all stand at the head of its fjord challenging you to come in. (B)
Day 8-Swedish Countryside to Stockholm
After breakfast, we're off for a stunning drive through the Swedish countryside, dotted with meadows, forests, and lakes to stately Stockholm-with its forested parks, regal museums and palace grandeur it retains the trappings of a former superpower. (B, L)
Day 9-Stockholm, Sweden
Often called "Venice of the North," Stock- holm is the capital of Sweden, made up of 14 rocky islands that are connected by more than 50 bridges. A sightseeing highlight is City Hall where Nobel Prize festivities take place. Your afternoon is free to explore. Perhaps take our optional canal tour, or walk through the cobbled streets of medieval Gamla Stan, or Old Town. Tonight join all of your fellow travelers for a "Farewell" dinner. (B, Farewell Dinner)
Optional Tour: Join us for a tour to see Stockholm from the water aboard the Royal Canal Tour. Departing from Stromkajen, your excursion takes you along the shady canal of Djurgarden and opens up into the sea. The ride continues along the shores of the Baltic Sea back towards the city, giving you an amazing perspective of this Nordic jewel.
Day 10-Stockholm-Flight Home
